As a 20 year veteran of the biopharmaceutical industry, I have learned a thing or two about the cost of healthcare. Nothing frustrates me more than seeing people pay too much for prescriptions.
When I started going through perimenopause myself, I was struck by two things:
- The danger of using Google to search for solutions (you get whoever pays the most first, so how do you know it is good?)
- The unbelievably high cost of supplements and offerings from existing sites.
These two uncomfortable truths led me to create The Fuchsia Tent. Our mission is to clarify, simplify, and support all women as they endeavor through the menopausal transition.
This article offers tips to simplify solutions. maximize your money, and minimize your suffering.
There are three main types of Telehealth providers targeting the menopausal transition.
- Hormonal and non-hormonal Telehealth prescription sites
- Full Telehealth care including prescription services for women in the menopausal transition
- Full in-person clinical care dedicated to women’s health
Within these four buckets, these companies work in three different ways:
- B2B: There are hormone/women’s health companies that contract with employers, meaning the costs are paid by your employer and typically only prescription costs pass through to employees.
- B2C: There are companies that sell directly to the consumer, which means you are responsible for both care fees and coverage.
- Hybrid: There are companies that contract with employers and offer coverage to individuals who wish to access their solutions
Before paying for any Telehealth solution, take the following steps:
STEP 1: If you are employed and have your own insurance or are covered on your partner’s insurance, check your benefits to see if your company has purchased care for any of the wonderful reproductive benefit services available to employers (Maven Clinic, Carrot Fertility, Progyny, KindBody, Elektra Health, Stella, Peppy, MIDI Health, Gennev, Upliv, and Ovia)
STEP 2: If you are in the millions of people who do not have a reproductive/menopause benefit as part of your employer’s package, don’t stress. There are many great options for individuals looking for menopausal transition care. Please see the chart below (note that there are new options coming to the market daily and we will refresh this page as often as possible.
